Women's Rights in Iran

In Iran, women stated their beliefs in that “a woman should have freedom of action” including travel and dress obligations (“The Rights of Muslim Women”). People in their countries have refused to see women as full, equal humans. Since 1990, the literacy rate of women in Iran dropped greatly and has been declining ever since. “Thirty six universities across Iran have banned women from 77 different majors, including accounting, counseling and engineering”(Students on Human Rights: Women’s Right to Education in the Middle East). In this way, women have the potential to acquire a "higher” education, but they are “unable to pursue the education and careers of their choice”(Students on Human Rights: Women’s Right to Education in the Middle East). Many Iranian women signed a legal document, demanding change.
